HC Deb 20 February 1984 vol 54 cc419-20W
Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if the area of Kings Sedgemoor is to be declared a site of special scientific interest; and what steps are being taken to stop this area being underdrained.

Mr. Waldegrave

My right hon. Friend is advised that the Nature Conservancy Council proposes to notify 656 hectares (1,620 acres) of King's Sedgemoor as a site of special scientific interest. It is currently negotiating a number of management agreements with landowners within the proposed SSSI to conserve the wildlife interest.
