HC Deb 20 February 1984 vol 54 c430W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will set up a formal inquiry into the forcible removal of children from the Hollies complex of children's homes in Sidcup on 27 and 28 October 1983; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

The events referred to arose from an industrial dispute. In difficult circumstances the London borough of Southwark took action that seemed to it in the best interests of the children concerned. We understand that a report on these events is being prepared for submission to the council of the London borough of Southwark shortly. We are asking to see the report, but we are not at present persuaded of the need for a formal inquiry.
