HC Deb 17 February 1984 vol 54 c344W
Ms. Harman

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if women at Government communications headquarters, Cheltenham, will have access to industrial tribunals in matters concerning maternity rights contained within the Employment Protection Act (Consolidated) 1978 as amended by the Employment Act 1980.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

As a result of the certificates which I signed on 25 January, women working at GCHQ will not have access to industrial tribunals in matters concerning maternity rights under the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978, as amended by the Employment Act 1980. Nevertheless time off for antenatal care; maternity pay and the right to return to work are provided for under the Civil Service Pay and Conditions Code.
