HC Deb 16 February 1984 vol 54 cc283-4W
Mr. Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what further matters, beyond the implementation of the 31 conclusions in the Government reply to the first report from the Home Affairs Committee, Session 1982–83, he proposes to include in the forthcoming Representation of the People Bill.

Mr. Mellor

Any changes which seem desirable in the light of the further consultations with the political parties, local authority associations and electoral registration officers' representatives to which paragraphs 5 and 6 of the Government's reply refer.

Mr. Waddington

I regret that information in the precise form requested is not available. From 1975 to the end of 1980 visas were authorised for some 2,650 relatives to join Vietnamese refugees settled in the United Kingdom. In the three years up to 31 December 1983 applications were received for 13,390 relatives to join Vietnamese refugees settled here; and visas were authorised for 3,185 relatives. Some applications are still outstanding.
