§ Mr. Tom Coxasked the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions he has had with the London docklands transportation consortium on the development of a fully automated rapid transport system for docklands; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerIn agreeing to commit financial resources to this project, the Government made clear to the London Docklands development corporation and the Greater London council, who are the clients for the project, that full advantage should be taken of existing technology. As those clients are aware, the Government will certainly expect to be satisfied that the selection procedures adopted have not ruled out any viable tenders for a fully automated system.
§ Mr. Tom Coxasked the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions he has had with the London docklands transportation consortium as to the use of rubber tyred vehicles on the transport system to be used in London docklands; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThe task of defining a performance specification for this project rests with the clients—the London Docklands development corporation and the Greater London council. Before giving final approval, the Government will need to be satisfied that all options have been properly considered and a sensible procedure has been followed to secure tenders.
§ Mr. Tom Coxasked the Secretary of State for Transport what consideration will be given for the use of British equipment for work to be done in the London docklands light rapid transport system.
