HC Deb 16 February 1984 vol 54 c278W
Mr. Heffer

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many dwellings have been (a) improved or gained by conversion and (b) repaired by local authorities in England as a result of housing expenditure on the renovation of the local authorities' own dwelling stock for the years 1979–80, 1980–81 and 1982–83.

Mr. Gow

Numbers of English local authority and new town dwelling conversions and improvements are published in Table 2.14 of "Housing and Construction Statistics": figures for 1979–80 are in issue No. 12 and later years in No. 15.

Estimates of numbers of dwellings covered by capitalised repairs are as follows:

Numbers
1979–80 300,000
1980–81 175,000
1981–82 175,000
1982–83 200,000

Information on dwellings repaired under revenue expenditure is not available.
