HC Deb 15 February 1984 vol 54 c185W
Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the likely cost to the Exchequer of compensation agreements under the Wildlife and Countryside Act arising from the sale of woods by the Forestry Commission and listed in the Official Report,17 January, c. 168.

Mr. Waldegrave

Local planning authorities have power under section 39 of the Act to enter into management agreements, but I am not aware of the extent to which such powers may have been used in respect of woodlands sold by the Forestry Commission.
