§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) if he will make available extra finance to local educational authorities in Wales so that more teaching of a limited number of subjects through the medium of the Welsh language can take place;
(2) if he will provide extra financial and resource assistance to local education authorities to increase the teaching of the Welsh language in schools serving Welsh-speaking areas.
§ Mr. John Stradling ThomasThe linguistic balance in the school curriculum is a matter for individual local education authorities in the light of their judgment of local circumstances and available resources. Specific further assistance is already available to authorities under section 21 of the Education Act 1980 in respect of the additional costs of providing Welsh medium education.
