HC Deb 15 February 1984 vol 54 c180W
Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many representations he has had regarding his plans to abolish the Tyne and Wear metropolitan council; and how many were in favour of retaining the council.

Mr. Waldegrave

I have received around 1,500 representations commenting on the proposals to abolish the metropolitan county councils—including Tyne and Wear — and the GLC contained in "Streamlining the Cities"—Cmnd. 9063. They have not been analysed in detail yet.
