HC Deb 15 February 1984 vol 54 cc188-9W
Mr. Prescott

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he has any intentions to change the requirements for Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels of trade union membership and conditions of work; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

The arrangements for trade union membership in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service are well known and of long standing. There are no plans or intentions to change them. Consultations with trade union representatives about conditions of work proceed on a continuing basis.

Mr. Prescott

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he has held discussions about trade union rights and conditions of work on Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

Officials hold discussions with trade union representatives on various aspects of conditions of work in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service, both afloat and ashore, as the need arises and on a continuing basis. Trade union rights are well understood, and they have not formed part of these discussions.
