14. Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total number of those unemployed for more than one year in Scotland and what was the corresponding figure in May 1979.

Mr. Allan Stewart

At 13 October 1983, the latest date for which information is available, the number of claimants in Scotland who had been unemployed for over 52 weeks was 124,319.

Figures for April 1979 were compiled on the basis of registrants and therefore not comparable; the number of registrants who had been unemployed for over 52 weeks at 5 April 1979 was 45,578.

25. Mr. Ron Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the present rate of unemployment in Scotland; and how many people under the age of 25 years are out of work.

At 12 January 1984, the latest date for which information is available the unemployment rate was 15.8 per cent. At 13 October 1983, the latest date on which unemployment figures were analysed by age, a total of 141,550 people under 25 years of age were claiming unemployment benefit.

Mr. George Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what were the total (a) numbers of persons unemployed, b) percentage rates of unemployment and (c) numbers of vacancies for the Hamilton, Blantyre and Uddingston jobcentre areas for the last month for which figures are available.
