HC Deb 15 February 1984 vol 54 c245W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many flight refuelling operations were required for his flight back from the Falklands by Nimrod; why extra fuel was jettisoned into the sea; and what was the amount of fuel jettisoned.

Mr. Stanley

There were three direct and two indirect refuelling operations. 105,000 lb. of fuel had to be jettisoned because two aircraft developed defects and had to jettison fuel in order to make a safe landing. This is a standard operating procedure.

Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will publish what ready-to-hand information he has relating to the cost of his recent visit to the Falkland Islands, including the cost of the civil servants who accompanied him.

Mr. Stanley

Apart from the direct operating costs of certain aircraft, referred to in my reply to the hon. Member for Kingston upon Hull, North (Mr. McNanara) on 31 January at c.187, ready-to-hand costings are not available.
