HC Deb 14 February 1984 vol 54 c174W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many applications at national level were received during the first two years of the national mobility scheme; and what proportion of these have been rehoused within that period.

Sir George Young

Figures given in the first two annual reports of the national mobility scheme, copies of which are in the Library, show that 32,647 new nominations at the national level were recorded in the two-year period up to 31 March 1983. Of these, 7,428 (23 per cent.) resulted in rehousing under the scheme during the same period.

Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many persons were rehoused at national level under the national mobility scheme during the year ended 1 April 1983; how many nominations were brought forward from the previous year; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

The second annual report of the national mobility scheme shows that 4,691 moves at the national level were reported in the year up to 31 March 1983. The number of nominations at the national level carried forward from the previous year was 5,016.

Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the average waiting time between the original date of nomination and the commencement of tenancy of those rehoused under the national mobility scheme for employment reasons.

Sir George Young

The second annual report of the national mobility scheme shows that, for all moves at national level in 1982–83, the average waiting period between the original nomination date and the tenancy commencement date was under four months. The latest estimates show that more than 70 per cent. of moves for employment reasons took place within three months, and more than 90 per cent. within six months of nomination.

Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many unemployed tenants (a) at national level and (b) at regional level had been assisted in relocation for employment reasons by the national mobility scheme in the year ended 1 April 1983.

Sir George Young

At the national level of the scheme, 60 nominations for people who were previously unemployed are recorded as having resulted in moves under the national mobility scheme in the year up to 31 March 1983. Equivalent information is not available for moves at the county level of the scheme.
