§ Mr. Pawseyasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will introduce a cut-off date to the exemption from the Trade Descriptions (Origin Marking) (Miscellaneous Goods) Order 1981 for goods brought into the United Kingdom before January 1982.
§ Mr. Alexander FletcherThe Trade Descriptions (Origin Marking) (Miscellaneous Goods) (Amendment) Order 1984, which was laid before the House on 8 February, will remove the exemption in the 1981 order for goods first supplied in the United Kingdom before 1 January 1982, with effect from 1 January 1985.

§ Mr. Pawseyasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will include direct mail advertising and mail order catalogues within the Trade Descriptions (Origin Marking)(Miscellaneous Goods) Order 1981.
§ Mr. Alexander FletcherThe order already applies to direct sale advertisements other than catalogues. I see no case for extending these requirements, which would impose disproportionate costs and burdens on traders and enforcement authorities.
