HC Deb 14 February 1984 vol 54 c120W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what inquiries he has made during the past 12 months to ensure that the fire fighting capability of the Welsh county councils is adequate to meet modern needs, and that local fire services have modern equipment and adequate services to undertake their responsibilities.

Mr. Mellor

During 1983 all fire authorities in Wales were inspected by Her Majesty's Fire Service Inspectorate for the purpose of reporting to my right hon. and learned Friend under section 24 of the Fire Services Act 1947 on the manner in which they were discharging their functions under the Act and the Fire Precautions Act 1971. We are satisfied that Welsh fire authorities have made adequate arrangements to discharge their statutory duties.
