§ Mr. Johnstonasked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the total of money received from the European social fund over the past five years; and what proportion has been spent in Scotland, region by region.
§ Mr. GummerAllocations from the European social fund to the United Kingdom in the past five years have been as follows:
£ million 1979 130 1980 135 1981 141 1982 258 1983 321 Most of these allocations are in respect of employment and training schemes taking place in several parts of the country. In 1983, for example, over 70 per cent. of allocations to the United Kingdom went to the Manpower Services Commission for its eligible training programmes, and these allocations cannot be broken down on a regional basis. It is therefore not possible to say what proportion of the money has been spent in Scotland.
