HC Deb 13 February 1984 vol 54 c52W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Under-Secretary of State answering in respect of the Arts whether, pursuant to his written answer to the hon. Member for Warley, East on 26 January, Official Report, c. 634, he will, when stipulating the price to public collections in the United Kingdom of works of art and museum objects for which an export licence has been temporarily withheld, in future include in this sum the amount of value added tax chargeable on agent's commission.

Mr. Waldegrave

The price specified when an export licence is withheld to export a work of art, antique or collector's item represents the fair market price of that item as determined by the reviewing committee on the export of works of art. It is not the committee's function to include in the specified price an estimate for VAT on the seller's expenses.
