HC Deb 13 February 1984 vol 54 c81W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many workers were employed in the scotch whisky industry at the latest date; and what were the comparative figures for June 1979.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Information in the form requested is not available, but the average number employed in the spirit distilling and compounding industry in Scotland is provisionally estimated to have been 19,100 in 1982; this compares with an estimate of 23,400 in 1979. These estimates are based on the annual census of production.
