asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the average level of domestic water rates payable in each water authority area in England.

The following table gives details of the 1983–84 water supply charges levied by the English water authorities on households who received art unmeasured water supply:

their policy not to seek to uprate the figures set out in clause 2(2) of the Rates Bill during the lifetime of this Parliament.

No. Clause 2(3) of the Rates Bill enables the Secretary of State to increase the £10 million level specified in clause 2(2)(a)—below which authorities may not be designated for selective rate limitation—by an order subject to negative resolution procedure in the House of Commons.
