§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if he will approve a substantial increase in Government grant-aid to the North-West industrial development association in the 1984–85 financial year, in view of the special problems of the region; and if he will make a statement;
(2) what is the estimated budget for the North-West industrial development association for 1984–85.
§ Mr. TrippierMy hon. Friend the Minister of State for Trade and Industry made a statement on 27 July 1983 at column 489 outlining a consultancy study of ways in which the north west of England (NORWIDA) may best be promoted as a location for industry and commercial development. The consultants have now reported their findings, and NORWIDA is considering how best to implement the report.
My Department has had no formal request for grant-in-aid either under the £ for £ matching arrangements with the local authorities in the region or under the more substantial level of funding on which the consultancy study was based.
My right hon. Friend will consider the NORWIDA proposals on their merit when they arrive.
