HC Deb 13 February 1984 vol 54 c91W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how soon he expects to have the results of the current noise monitoring programme on the M25 in the Byfleet and West Byfleet area.

Mrs. Chalker

Further measurements have to be taken. Depending on the weather, I hope to have the results in four to six weeks' time. I will then write to my hon. Friend.

Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what has been the total cost to public funds to date of the measures to reduce noise disturbance from the M25 on both sides of the motorway between the railway bridge north of Byfleet and the bridge over the River Wey south of the village.

Mrs. Chalker

About £75,000, excluding the cost of the acquisition of land for the construction of barriers, which is not readily available.

Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether the same criteria were applied to noise reduction measures on the Chertsey-Wisley section of the M25 as to those on the A3 Esher bypass.

Mrs. Chalker

The method of calculating road traffic noise has been refined since the construction of the Esher bypass; and the different circumstances of individual road schemes make comparisons difficult. In general, the same criteria have been applied to both these sections of road, although for the more recent M25 Chertsey to Wisley scheme there is a more extensive provision of noise barriers.
