HC Deb 10 February 1984 vol 53 c795W
Ms. Harman

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the occupations of those persons who made complaints to industrial tribunals in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983, respectively, for unfair dismissal for trade union membership or trade union activities.

Mr. Gummer

Occupational data on unfair dismissal complaints are collected only on a 10 per cent. sample basis. Because the number of complaints of unfair dismissal on grounds of trade union membership or activities is small, as I indicated in my reply to the hon. Member on 1 November 1983—[Vol. 47, c.319]—an occupational analysis on such a sample basis would not have any statistical validity.
