HC Deb 09 February 1984 vol 53 cc721-2W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people in Northern Ireland are covered by special employment and training measures.

Mr. Butler

At end December 1983, 19,350 persons were benefiting from special employment and training measures in Northern Ireland. In addition, during the last nine months of 1983, applications were approved for some 5,897 places under the training on employers' premises scheme and 6,478 places under the young workers scheme. It is not possible, however, to identify the current number fo trainees on these two schemes as claims from employers are not received until after the training.
