§ Sir Dudley Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to introduce a properly controlled heating system in the Norman Shaw north building.
§ Sir George YoungBoth Norman Shaw buildings are heated by hot water from a boiler room in Norman Shaw south. A new boiler and associated control system was installed in 1982, but the present radiator valves allow only a very coarse adjustment. Consideration is being given to the fitting of thermostatically controlled radiator valves coupled with lagging the remainder of the distribution pipework.

§ Sir Dudley Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Environment why, on 6 February, the heating at Norman Shaw north was operating at its maximum capacity.
§ Sir George YoungThe setting of the thermostat which controls the level of heating was checked on 7 February. There was no reason to suppose that it had been altered in any way since Parliament resumed on 16 January. It has, however, been adjusted to bring room temperatures down.
