HC Deb 09 February 1984 vol 53 c731W
50. Mr. Maples

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received with regard to the continued existence of the national insurance surcharge.

Mr. Moore

I have received a number of representations suggesting the early reduction or abolition of the National Insurance surcharge. My hon. Friend will be aware that the past reduction in the rate from 3½ per cent. to 1 per cent. is already worth some £2 billion a year to the private sector.
