The reorganisation combined the Departments of Finance and the Civil Service into the Department of Finance and Personnel, the Departments of Commerce and Manpower Services into the department of Economic Development, and transferred various functions of the then Department of Finance to other Northern Ireland departments.
(2) The figures for the Departments of agriculture and Environment for May 1979 exclude 1,281 and 488 staff, respectively, who were employed on the temporary urban and renewal improvement compaign.
(3) The figures for the Northern Ireland Office include staf serving in the Northern Ireland Office in London and exclude from ! dEcember 1982 243 staff transferred tothe Probation Board for Northern Ireland.
