HC Deb 08 February 1984 vol 53 c612W
Mr. Sheerman

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the numbers on the young workers scheme at the latest available date; and of these how many were (a) 16 years old, (b) 17 years old, (c) male and (d) female.

Mr. Alan Clark

It is estimated that 105,000 young workers in Great Britain were being supported by the young workers scheme at 31 December 1983. An analysisj of supported workers by age and sex cannot be obtained. However, it is estimated that of the young workers covered by the scheme in January 1983, a little over one quarter were aged 16. One half of those covered at that time were male.
