HC Deb 08 February 1984 vol 53 cc672-3W
Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what forms are required by a person wishing to reclaim medical expenses incurred in other Common Market countries; and what steps have to be taken to obtain them.

Dr. Boyson

Those persons resident in an EC member state who are entitled to immediately necessary medical treatment in another member State, on the same basis as other residents of that member State, are defined in EC Social Security Regulations 1408/71 and 574/72. Under these regulations, form E111 is the document normally required to confirm that a resident of another member State is entitled to immediately necessary treatment in accordance with the Regulation; other forms cover treatment given in other circumstances. In the United Kingdom a form E111 valid for up to three months, may be obtained on application to any DHSS local office; a form valid for up to one year, for use by frequent travellers, may be obtained from DHSS Overseas Branch (OGBI), Newcastle-Upon-Tyne NE98 1YX. Applications should be made on form CM 1, included at the back of DHSS leaflet SA30, obtainable from DHSS local offices, the Automobile Association and some travel agents.
