HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 c533W
Q20. Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Prime Minister if she will estimate the number of teachers of English and mathematics who need to qualify each year from now until the year 2000 in order to ensure no shortages of such teachers in schools.

The Prime Minister

In setting targets for intakes to teacher training my right hon. Friends take account of likely demand in schools in the years immediately ahead for teachers of those and other subjects. But there are too many uncertainties to permit reliable forecasts of teacher demand by subject up to the year 2000.
