HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 c582W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what response his Department has received on the health implications of the Government's guidelines to retailers on solvent abuse; whether he will consider further measures to reduce the incidence of this practice, particularly among young people; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

At present I have nothing to add to my replies to my hon. Friend the Member for Mid-Kent (Mr. Rowe) on 15 December—[Vol. 50, c.581–83]—beyond that the initial supply of guidelines on sales of solvent-based products, referred to in the second reply, was sent to retailers' representative organisations on 12 January for distribution to their members. We must allow some time for them to take effect. The situation is being kept under review.
