HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 cc564-5W
Mr. Janner

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he last carried out an analysis of information required for sex monitoring of the Departments for which he is responsible.

Mr. Hayhoe

[pursuant to his reply, 6 February 1984, c. 437]The Inland Revenue and Department for National Savings participated in the joint review group study of equal opportunites for women in the Civil Service, and the Treasury has carried out its own departmental study on this subject. These Departments carry out selective analyses of promotion rates for men and women on a continuing basis and are also involved with other aspects of equal opportunities research, such as the relative career progress of men and women and variations in annual report markings. In addition, my Departments are required to notify Cabinet Office — Management and Personnel Office—of complaints under the Sex Discrimination and Equal Pay Acts and to provide details of single sex posts which are then analysed centrally. In future all my Departments will, of course, be involved with the departmental monitoring arrangements for data on equal opportunities which form part of the programme of action to follow up the joint review group report.
