§ 56. Mr. Steelasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many overseas students applied for student allowances following the House of Lords decision on eligibility after the deadline of 31 July set by his Department.
§ Sir Keith JosephThe Department advised LEAs to allow overseas students a reasonable time in which to apply in writing for retrospective awards following the House of Lords decision, and suggested that LEAs adopt a deadline of 31 July 1983 for this purpose. Some LEAs set later dates, however. The Department has no information about the number of students who applied after the deadlines set by LEAs.
