HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 cc544-5W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations have been made to his Department from the Welsh water authority and other sources about proposals to restrict the sales of fish taken illegally from rivers and lakes through the requirement to place a tag on each fish legitimately caught; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Following the submission of such proposals to the Government by the salmon sales group of the National Water Council, the Welsh Office joined the other Fisheries Departments in seeking the views of interested parties. Those in Wales which responded were the Carmarthenshire Fishermen's Federation, the Farmers Union of Wales, the South West Wales Angling Federation, the Welsh Anglers Council and the Welsh Salmon and Trout Association. The Welsh water authority has been involved in meetings with the Departments at which the proposals were discussed.
