HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 cc521-2W
Mr. Gregory

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will advise the level of funding to the British Tourist Authority in each year since 1979.

Mr. Norman Lamont

The following table shows the amounts provided by way of grant-in-aid to the British Tourist Authority in each financial year since 1979–80. The figure for 1983–84 is estimated:

Year £
1979–80 12,790,990
1980–81 14,230,000
1981–82 16,218,000
1982–83 18,096,000
1983–84 16,992,000

The authority also receives revenue apart from its grant-in-aid and details of this are set out in the BTA's published annual accounts. The reduction in provision for 1983–84 reflects certain changes in functions, such as the withdrawal of the BTA from some domestic activities and transfers of funds to the ETB, which were announced by the then Under-Secretary of State on 16 March 1983 in reply to a written parliamentary question.—[Vol. 39, c. 193.]
