HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 c523W
Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what proportion of BL's Acclaim motor car is comprised of local content; and what proportion is comprised of local parts.

Mr. Butcher

The normal definition of local content is on an ex-works price basis. This includes EC bought-in components and materials, local labour and other overheads including depreciation, and manufacturing profit. Using this definition, I understand that the average local content across the Acclaim model range is currently 70 per cent. and that further substantial increases in local content are expected later this year. Within this figure, the proportion of locally sourced parts in the Acclaim is a commercially confidential matter, within the commercial responsibilities of BL.
