HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 c448W
41. Mr. Bagier

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he is satisfied with the current level of bus service provision in rural areas.

Mrs. Chalker

Bus services in rural areas are very much a local matter. The level of public transport that operators can provide commercially may need supplementing through subsidy from county councils. Where conventional buses are no longer viable, unconventional forms of transport can be of great help, and my Department is doing all it can to ensure general awareness of all the possibilities.
