HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 cc421-2W
Mr. Yeo

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) what is the annual cost of maintaining the register of company files at Companies house, in total and as an average per company;

(2) what is the total number of public and private companies for which files are held at Companies house.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

As shown in the annual report to Parliament, the cost of maintaining the companies registration offices in Great Britain was £15.636 million. At 31 December 1982, there were 904,593 public or private companies on the registers; the average cost per company therefore was approximately £15.

Mr. Yeo

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the annual income received from the £20 filing fee charged to companies upon filing their annual returns.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

In 1982 it was £9.768 million.
