HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 cc428-9W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Prime Minister (1) which Departments are represented on the inter-departmental committee co-ordinating the Government's campaign on local government;

(2) how many civil servants, and of what grade, represent Government Departments on the interdepartmental committee co-ordinating the Government's campaign on local government; what is the estimated cost to the taxpayer of their activities in a full financial year; and from which departmental budget they draw any funds which they are authorised to disburse.

The Prime Minister

It is not the Government's practice to make public the composition of interdepartmental committees of civil servants or Ministers. In so far as a number of Departments have an interest in local government policies, the presentation of the policies is carried out as part of the normal duties of the Information Directorates of these Departments, in co-ordination with the Department of the Environment which has overall responsibility. The cost of such activities is met from normal departmental funds.
