HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 c434W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what factors cause the variations in income tax as a percentage of pay in the various industries listed in the answers of 18 January 1984, Official Report, c. 221–22.

Mr. Moore

This mainly reflects the variation in the average level of earnings among the different industries; the higher the earnings level, the greater the proportion of earnings that is deducted in income tax.

Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many families claiming family income supplement were liable to pay income tax in each year since 1979.

Mr. Moore

Information is not available precisely the form requested. The following table gives the number of FIS recipients at the date shown and, of those, the number estimated to be liable to income tax at the date of their previous claim.
