§ Mr. Rookerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why it is not possible for an immigrant head of family permanently settled in the United Kingdom personally to assist dependants when they are making applications for entry clearance to enter the United Kingdom if he is visiting them in their home country.
§ Mr. WaddingtonUnder paragraph 46 of the Immigration Rules (H.C. 169) a person sponsoring the entry of dependants to the United Kingdom must be present and settled here or admitted for settlement on the420W same occasion. In practice this rule is applied in such a way as to allow a sponsor to make a short visit abroad to assist his dependants in making their applications.
