HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 c498W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the changes he is seeking to make in the system of conveyancing in Scotland; and when he will be introducing legislation to effect these changes.

Mr. Ancram

The Government have already made clear their intention to introduce legislation to enable solicitors employed by institutions such as building societies and banks to undertake conveyancing. We shall be undertaking consultations to identify how potential conflicts of interest and other possible difficulties might be overcome and on other possible improvements in conveyancing.
