§ Mr. Steenasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total cost of administering the community programme per month and per year; what is the weekly cost per person engaged in the programme, defined as the administrative pro-rata cost to the public; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonThe total cost of administering the community programme, running at its full size of 130,000 filled places throughout the 1984–85 financial year, is estimated to be £10.071 million; that is £839,250 per month. On the same assumptions the weekly cost per person on temporary jobs on the programme will be about £1.50 or 1.8 per cent. of the total weekly cost per place. The organisation and staffing of the community programme are kept under review.
