Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish, for 1983–84, the number of local authorities which were spending (a) above grant-related expenditure and above target, (b) below or at grant-related expenditure and below or at target, (c) above grant-related expenditure and below or at target and (d) below or at grant-related expenditure and above target.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

The information relating to budgets of all local authorities in 1983–84, in England, is as follows:

  1. (a) 119 are above grant-related expenditure and above target.
  2. (b) 184 are below or at GRE and below or at target.
  3. (c) 57 are above GRE and below or at target.
  4. (d) 53 are below or at GRE and above target.

Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish the percentage change in current expenditure per head of population on each service of every (a) non-metropolitan county, (b) metropolitan county, (c) metropolitan district, (d) London borough and (e) each precepting authority in London between 1980–81 and 1983–84.
