§ Mr. Jannerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will give his approval to the enveloping scheme instigated by him in the constituency of the hon. and learned Member for Leicester, West and in respect of which approval is being withheld; what are the reasons for the delay in approving the scheme; and whether he will indemnify the Leicester city council in respect of loss and damage caused through his delay in approving the scheme.
§ Sir George YoungOf the enveloping proposals submitted by the city council which are currently before my right hon. Friend's Department, approval has been given in the cases of Bardolph street and Medway street. The Mere road and Moorgate-Westbourne street cases are still under consideration. They involve difficult points which require very careful consideration before decisions can be reached. No question of compensation to the city council arises.
