Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on how many occasions in 1983 Her Majesty's ambassador in Moscow held official discussions with a member or members of the Soviet Politburo at which matters of substance were raised in a formal setting; and on how many such occasions General Secretary Yuri Andropov was present.

During 1983 Her Majesty's ambassador in Moscow had official discussions with a full member of the Politburo and with a candidate member of the Politburo. Bilateral and international questions were discussed at both meetings. Mr. Andropov was not present on either occasion.
