Mr. Prescott

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what meetings officials of his Department have had with representatives of Nissan about the availability of the various forms of regional assistance available in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

There have been regular meetings between officials and Nissan since the company's feasibility study was originally announced, and the question of regional financial assistance has been among the issues discussed. Details of the assistance to be made available for the Nissan project were given in my right hon. Friend's statement to the House on 1 February.
