HC Deb 02 February 1984 vol 53 cc276-7W
Mr. Hickmet

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the cuts in the budget of Humberside police made by the police committee of Humberside county council and the consequent ending of all police recruitment in January, pending the reduction of the establishment by 180 officers, he will order an immediate review by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Contabulary of the Humberside force; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hurd

No. I understand that a final decision has not yet been made on the Humberside police budget for the next financial year. Her Majesty's Inspectorate will, as usual, review the Humberside police in the course of the year.

Mr. Hickmet

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the answer of 24 November 1983, Official Report, c. 232, if he is satisfied that the police committee of Humberside county council is discharging its statutory duty to promote an efficient and effective police force in the county of Humberside.

Mr. Hurd

I am satisfied that the Humberside police force is at present efficient.
