In the first six months of 1983, the most significant exports were 1.7 million tonnes of wheat at an average value of 144 ecu/tonne, 475,000 tonnes of refined sugar at an average of 289 ecu/tonne and 68,000 tonnes of beef and veal at an average of 1,541 ecu/ tonne.
