HC Deb 02 February 1984 vol 53 c340W
Mr. Renton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will introduce legislation to ensure that the directors of a company cannot comprise a majority of the trustees of that company's pension scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Boyson

It is for employers, employees and their representatives to decide who should be trustees of occupational pension schemes. The question of clarifying trustee and employer responsibilities will be included in a consultative document on disclosure of information, which will be published shortly. We favour the voluntary development of member participation in the management of schemes, and we welcome the increase in the number of schemes with trustees appointed from the work force.
