HC Deb 02 February 1984 vol 53 c311W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence, what was the level of military aid to Bangladesh in 1978–79 and each year since at constant prices, indicating separately the cost of the military mission.

Mr. Stanley

The total level of military aid to overseas countries is confidential between the Governments concerned and ourselves. The cost of the military mission in Bangladesh in 1978–79 and each year since at constant 1978–79 prices was as follows:

£
1978–79 187,000
1979–80 120,000
1980–81 55,000
1981–82 70,000
1982–83 80,000
1983–84 *90,000
* Estimated.

The large decrease in the cost of the team from 1978–79 to 1980–81 was due to reduced numbers of personnel. The subsequent increase was due to the reinstatement of a Naval representative in the latter part of 1981.
